Water filtration is the process of removing solid particles or gaseous fluids by the use of a filter that allows only the liquid to pass through, providing a far more pure and safe water.
A variety of filters are used as both pre-filtration and post-filtration processes. Cartridge filters are an economic solution in capital cost, but they can become high consumable cost if the wrong filters are selected. The positioning of any such industrial water filters and the client’s ability to monitor the performance of the same is also very important.

Activated Carbon
Activated carbon filters are effective for removing odours and bad tastes from the water. Also, activated carbon filters can remove a wide range of organic compounds. This fact is what makes the carbon filter a popular choice for water pre-filtration.Activated carbon is also very effective in the removal of free chlorine in the feed water to Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems. The type commonly used is carbon impregnated with a pore rating of 5 microns. This removes free chlorine and reduces the fouling index to acceptable levels.
Selective ION Exchange Media

Sediment
Sediment filters offer an effective yet low-cost way to filter water. Water passes downward through sand that has been organised in such a way as to have large particles near the top and small particles near the bottom. Because water moves slowly with only the power of gravity, much contact is made with the industrial water filter, allowing fungi, bacteria, organic matter and even some viruses to be removed.
Ultra-Filtration (UF)
Ultra-Filtration (UF), driven by low pressure, is a mechanical process for removing contaminants from water. Specifically, the ultra-filtration process removes suspended colloids, solids and materials of high molecular weight from water.

- Water filtration systems are not limited by size as far as the contaminant particles they can remove. As a result, a much higher number of contaminants can be removed by water filtration while retaining healthy minerals.
- As well, industrial water filters do not require expensive energy sources to work and waste very little water when compared to other methods.
- Unfortunately, water filtration may not remove all unwanted contaminants from water. For example, some filters do not remove chemicals, causing them to remain in the water. Rapid water filters may not allow enough time for water to make contact with the filter, which can also result in contaminants being retained in the water.
- As stated previously, the solid block carbon filter uses adsorption to ensure that chemicals, as well as other contaminants, are removed from the water.
